Larry Dean Knapp, the son of Beulah Kent, was born December 8, 1942 in Sioux City, IA. His childhood years were spent in Newton, IA, where he attended school until 1952. From 1952 through 1959, Larry attended school in Spencer, IA, graduating from Spencer High School where he lettered in football.
On July 14, 1963, Larry was united in marriage to Nancy Alspach at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, IA. To this union three children were born: Belinda, Jeffery, and Dena.

Before retiring and pursuing his passion for fishing, Larry was an over the road driver. Larry received a Graphic Arts Associates Degree in 1982, and served with the National Guard 3 years.
Larry's children and family were most important to him. Watching his children grow up gave him much amusement. Larry also enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He loved the times tobogganing with his kids, swimming the length of the public pool and back with one breath, roller skating, achieving his GED, and watching auto races with Randy and Alex. Larry enjoyed winning stuffed animals for Ruthie, sketching, woodworking, cooking, watching his grandkids' sporting events, and traveling.
