Larry Lynn Barnes was born in Algona, Iowa August 10, 1955 to his parents Dean and Lu Barnes. His early education was in Algona then later in Spencer. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1973.
Larry worked for Rolin Construction and Sully Trucking as a driver and a repairman. He enjoyed living in Iowa City and attending classes at University of Iowa. Later he finished his courses in Biology in Upper Iowa University. Marine Biology was of great interest to him. However, he was truly an "outdoorsman". He loved to hunt and fish. Reading was also a pleasant pastime.
An unfortunate incident during an emergency spinal surgery and staph infection kept him in the hospital for many months. He moved back to Spencer to recover. All this kept him handicapped in walking and standing.
The Lord took him home November 3, 2008. Left to cherish his memory are: his mother, Lu Barnes, and a brother, David and wife, Mary, their two daughters, Kelsey and Rachel; also a sister, Ann and her husband, Jess Johannsen, their son, Tyler and their daughter, Lacy Wright and husband, Jim. Larry's grandparents and father, Dean preceded him in death in March 2006. Many relatives and friends will miss Larry.
Any donations may be sent to Hospice of Northwest Iowa or First Baptist Church of Spencer.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family for a lunch in the church basement dining area following the committal service.
