Lavonne Ruth Mccarty

LaVonne Ruth McCarty, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Johnson) Newel, was born November 15, 1924 in Fenton, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Fenton, where she received her education, graduating from Fenton High School. Following high school, she continued her education at Iowa Teacher's College for 2 years and later Northwestern College in Orange City, where she received her BS degree. LaVonne married Richard McCarty on September 28, 1946 in Whittemore, IA. Following their marriage, they made their home in Hartley, where she taught school in the Hartley School System for 29 � years, until her retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hartley, where she was active with the altar society, was a past choir member and was also a lector. LaVonne was also a member of the NEA and the ISEA, the Legion Auxiliary and the Friday Club organizations. She enjoyed music, playing bridge, reading and spending time with her friends and family. LaVonne was also known for making baked goods for her family and faithfully attending her grandchildren's activities. She passed away at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at the age of 86. LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard on May 17, 1987 and 2 brothers: Lyle and Harold Newel. Left to cherish her memory are her four sons and their wives: Richard and Jeannette McCarty of Swisher, IA, Lee and Kathy McCarty of Ankeny, IA, Kelly and Barb McCarty of Spencer, IA and Kim and Karyl McCarty of Marion, IA; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren: Chad, Cody and Sophia; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hartley. There will be a Scripture Service at 5:30 P.M. and a Parish Rosary at 7:30 P.M., Monday both at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hartley.

INTERMENT
Pleasant View Cemetery Hartley, Iowa A lunch and time of fellowship will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church following the graveside services.
