Lawrence Floyd Osborn

September 30, 1919 — November 8, 2013

Lawrence Floyd Osborn, the son of William Floyd and Rose (Sangl) Osborn, was born on September 30, 1919 in Jackson County, MN. He was raised and attended country school in Jackson County. After his schooling, he was drafted into the military on May 27, 1942, serving in the U.S. Army. He served during WWII, where he was stationed in Italy, Africa and England. He was honorably discharged on June 24, 1945. Lawrence married Velma Brott on August 14, 1945, in Spencer, IA. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Spirit Lake, IA. Lawrence did a variety of jobs: he farmed for about 8 years, worked for the City of Okoboji, McQuay's and also had a sanitation route around west Okoboji. He always said he was the 'Jack of all Trades, Master of None'. After retiring in the 1980's, they moved to Dickens. He enjoyed playing card games, gardening, wood working and raising rabbits and chickens. He was a member of Faith Pentecostal Church and the V.F.W. in Spencer and the American Legion in Ruthven. Lawrence passed away at St. Luke's Home on Friday, November 8, 2013, at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma on October 23, 2006; his parents; a grandson, Jeffrey Crumpacker; 2 sisters and one brother. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Kay (Gary) Swenson of Milford, IA, Karen (Jim) Crumpacker of Nairobi, Kenya; one son Kim Osborn of Long Prairie, MN; 4 grandchildren: Scott (Chelsea) Swenson of Milford, IA, Shane Swenson of Spencer, Jason (Jill) Crumpacker of Miramar, FL and Lindsey Hammond; 6 great grandchildren: Brianna and Caden Swenson, Orrin and Tell Crumpacker and Michaela and Alexis Koudelka; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Warner Chapel in Spencer.
