Lee Luverne Shatto

Lee Luverne Shatto, the son of Luther and Orpha Shatto, was born October 8, 1930 in Spencer, IA. He attended school in Spencer and graduated in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. During his service, he was stationed in Germany for 17 months. After returning from the military, he met Alice Schmeling who was a roommate of his sister Della. Lee and Alice were married on June 27, 1954 in Terril, IA. Following their marriage, the two of them lived in the Spencer area except for the years 1959-1963, at which time they lived in Lake City, IA. While living in the area, Lee was an active member of the First English Lutheran Church, a volunteer member of the Spencer Fire Department, Mayor of Fostoria, a volunteer commander of the Spencer VFW post, District Commander of the VFW, and he was an active participant of the Clay County road department for 23 years. He also owned and operated Shatto Auto upholstery for 15 years, but in his spare time he enjoyed golfing and woodworking. On February 21, 2003 Alice passed away at the Methodist hospital in Rochester, MN after an extended illness. After the passing of Alice he found happiness with Alyce Wade; they were married on November 27, 2004. They lived near Royal until the time of his death. On Sunday March 16th, 2014, Lee passed away in the Spencer hospital at the age of 83. He is preceded in death by his parents Luther and Orpha, brother Roy, sister Della, and his wife Alice. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Alyce Shatto, of Spencer, IA. Three sons and their wives: Steve and Erynne Shatto of Mobile, AL; Randy and Loretta Shatto of Sioux Falls, SD; Doug and Sharon Shatto of Colorado Spring, CO. And one daughter and her husband: Teresa and Scott Loving of Albert City, IA. Nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two brothers: Delmer Shatto and Wayne Shatto both of Missoula, MT; one sister Carol Albers of Spencer; as well as other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the First English Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up in his name.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin after 12Noon on Wednesday with the family present from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
