Lenore “Connie” Alger was born Lenore Gertrude O’Connor on August 7, 1922 at the home of her parents, Tom and Myrtle O’Connor in Cartersville, Iowa. She grew up enjoying life in that small town and on the family farmland. An excellent student, she graduated from Rockwell High School at 16, shortly before her father suddenly passed. She later attended beauty school and was in that profession for nearly fifty years until she retired. She spent most of her working years with Blair House of Beauty, Design Masters and her own salon “Connie’s” in Spencer. She married Glen Alger on June 2, 1946, and over the course of more than five decades they saw their family of seven children grow to a large and loving group by the time Glen passed away in 1998. Her retirement was filled with family time and her habit of voracious reading of dozens of books every year until her death. Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Alger, by her parents, Glen’s parents Bob and Mildred Alger of Spencer, IA, her brother Richard O’Connor and his wife Myrtle of Rockford, IA, her brothers-in-law, Earl Alger and his wife Cleone of Laurens, IA, Gale Alger and his wife Shirley of Gillett Grove, IA, and Bob, Jr, of Arnold’s Park, IA, her sister-in-law, Vera and her husband, Harley Brackey of Laurens and her daughter-in-law, Judy Alger of Emmetsburg, IA. She is survived by four sons: Tom (Marilyn), Chris (Bobbi), Scott (Char) and Todd (Kirsten) and three daughters: Vicki (Keith) Peterson, Deb (Ron) Miller and Kim (Marty) Martin and a sister-in-law, Rose Alger. Surviving grandchildren include Brian, Eric, Alex, Jerad, Jeff, Josh, Livy and Tyler Alger, and Marguerite Sullivan, Pete Peterson, Erin Peterson, Nick Miller, Emily Grimley, Amanda Savage, Joe Franker, Tony Franker, Bennie Sejnoha, and Clare Martin. Connie also had six step-grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and countless family friends.
