Leola "Lee" Mae Steffen

April 8, 1920 — February 9, 2011

Leola "Lee" Steffen, the daughter of Lambert and Jeanette (Groenewoud) Petersma, was born April 8, 1920 in Lynnville, IA. Her early years were spent in Lynnville, where she received her elementary and high school education. In 1938, she played basketball with the Lynnville, Iowa basketball team in the state tournament in Des Moines. After high school, she worked in the Monroe Hotel dining room in Grinnell, then to California to be with her husband while he was in the Navy. She married Kendric "Sam" Steffen in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on October 4, 1942. She worked in a camera shop developing prints and photos. She and her husband moved to Spencer in 1948. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, where she was active with church women. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary and she and her husband were volunteers at the Senior Center. Lee passed away at the Riverview Terrace on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Sam in 2005. Mrs. Steffen is survived by one daughter, Linda Lollich of Arlington, TX; one son, Jim and his wife, Miriam of Kennewick, WA; grandchildren: Megan, Aaron and his wife, Karen of Arlington, TX; one sister, Norma Brinker of Napa, CA; a nephew, Michael Harper and wife, Joann of Las Vegas, NV and a niece, Connie Cartwright of Upland, CA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin 3:00 P.M., Friday, February 11, 2011 with the family present from 5 to 7:00 P.M., Friday Evening at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
