Leon Carl Oglesby, the son of Thomas and Anne (Lavin) Oglesby was born on April 30, 1928, in Mankato, MN. His childhood years were spent in Mankato where he received his education and graduated from Mankato High School. Following high school, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army from 1947 until 1949 and served with the U.S Air Force from 1949, until his honorable discharge in 1953. Leon returned to Mankato and began working at the Mankato Free Press working in the bindery department.
Leon married Helen Hattendorf on April 30, 1928 in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Following their marriage, he continued his work at the Mankato Free Press. In 1974, they moved to Spencer, Iowa, where he worked at Heartland Press, until his retirement in 1990. Lee enjoyed collecting coins, building dollhouses for his granddaughters, traveling and watching TV.
Mr. Oglesby passed away at his home in Spencer on Monday, December 3, 2007 at the age of 79. His parents; two great grandchildren; one brother, Cliff; a sister, Margaret Albright; two nephews and one grandnephew preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Spencer; a son, Tim and his wife, Grace of Indianapolis, IN; three daughters: Sharon Frederick of Spencer, Debbie and her husband, Shannon Green of Spencer and Sandy and her husband, Myron Wernimont of Spencer; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; many other nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30a.m, Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
