Leon Watson Walker, the son of Lester Wayne and Ruth A. (Watson) Walker, was born May 10, 1922 in Sioux Rapids, IA. His childhood years were spent in Rossie, Iowa, where he received his education, graduating from Rossie High School in 1941.
Leon married Phyllis June Walker on August 15, 1944 in Spencer, Iowa. After their marriage, they made their home in Royal, where he worked from 1945 until 1962 at Farmer's Trust and Savings Bank in Rossie, know as the 'Rossie Office'. In 1962, he was hired at Home State Bank in Royal, where he was a cashier and later served as vice president of the bank, until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement, he spent 12 years during the winter in Bonita Springs and Punta Gorda, Florida. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Royal, where he served as treasurer. Leon was secretary/treasurer for the Royal Telephone Company for 7 years and president of the Royal Lion's Club.
He passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the age of 93. Leon was preceded in death by one son, Gregory; and his wife, Phyllis in 2001.
He is survived by one son, Leon 'Wayne' Walker of Chelsie, Iowa; several nieces and nephews, including Shelly (Dave) Nelson of Dickens; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 30, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Royal.
