Leona Ella Sears, the daughter of Theodore and Lena (Danker) Lammers, was born May 9, 1905, in Everly, Iowa. In 1920 Leona moved to Spencer with her family and attended school and graduated from Spencer High School.
On December 18, 1928, Leona was united in marriage to Seril J. Sears in Chicago, Illinois. Following their marriage they lived in Spencer. The couple owned and operated Nesbitt Bottling.
Leona was a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer, Degree of Honor Lodge, Legion Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge, and the Clay County Garden Club.
In her free time she enjoyed gardening, flowers, and traveling.
On June 27, 2008, Leona passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 103. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Harlan Lammers; two sisters: Sylvia Lammers and Wilma Grant; one sister-in-law, Rolene Wilshusen; and niece, Rolene Wilshusen.
Left to cherish her memory are three nephews: John (Nancy) Grant of Las Vegas, NV, Ron (Sue) Sears of Spencer, IA, and Jerry (Sharon) Sears of Bailey, CO; two nieces: Darlene Hays and Anne Meyers; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Warner Chapel in Spencer.
