Leona Margaret Skaar, the daughter of E.W. and Freda (Langholz) Kraft, was born February 19, 1918, in Brewster, MN. Her childhood years were spent in Paullina, where she received her early education at Zion Lutheran School. She later continued her education at Meridan High School where she graduated in 1935. Following her schooling, she worked at different homes and at Hart's Caf� in Primghar.
Leona married Earl Silas Skaar on December 29, 1939 at the Horton Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, IA. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed in the communities of Primghar, Ocheyedan, Melvin and Spencer, IA. In 1959, they purchased the family farm at Gaza and farmed there until retiring to Hartley, IA, in 1983. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. Leona was known for the love to teach God's word, making handmade quilts, doilies and raising her beautiful flowers.
Leona passed away at Prairie View Manor in Sanborn, IA, on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Karen Ann; three brothers: Arnold, Lester and Elmer and her husband, Earl Skaar on January 13, 2008.
Left to cherish her memory are one son and his wife, Benny and Janice of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; one daughter and her husband, Joyce and Paul Heitritter of Elkader, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Alvin Kraft of Sioux Falls, SD, Vernon Kraft of Harris, IA and Burdette Kraft of Benson, MN; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 15, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley.
