Leonard John Wersinger

of Spencer formerly of Remsen, Iowa and the Iowa Great Lakes area. Leonard John Wersinger, the son of Joseph and Minnie (Unkrur) Wersinger, was born January 2, 1926 in Remsen, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Remsen, where he received his education. After high school, he farmed in the Remsen area. Leonard married Shirley Gunderson on August 24, 1960 in South Sioux City, NE. To this union five children were born: Denise, Keith, David, Paul and Lisa. They were divorced in 1984 and she preceded him in death in 2011. Leonard married Jacquelyn Callenius Hohbach on February 14, 1987 in Germantown, Iowa. After their marriage they continued to live near Granville, IA, where they farmed for two more years. In 1989, they moved to Sheldon, Iowa, where he worked for Don's Sheet Metal Company and also for Village N.W. Unlimited in their recycling program. In 1996, they moved to the Iowa Great Lakes area, where they were both employed by the Arnold's Park Amusement Park for many years and wintered for 18 years in Arizona. In 2010, they moved to Spencer. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and traveling. He passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Leo in infancy, Arthur, Lawrence, Joseph & Raphael Wersinger; four sisters: Helen Jochum, Gertrude Bush, Rose Stallo & Mary Wersinger and one grandson, Colt Wersinger. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jacquelyn of Spencer; his children: Denise (Roy E.) Williams of Newton, IA, Keith (Sue) Wersinger of Bondurant, IA, David Wersinger and special friend, Rani Speelmon of Cherokee, IA, Paul Wersinger of Ft. Dodge, IA and Lisa Wersinger of Cherokee; his stepchildren: Steven Hohbach of Paullina, Kevin (Kerry) Hohbach of Red Oak, IA, Laura (Kent) Lundquist of Paullina, IA, Brian Hohbach of Glenwood, IA, Dan (Kim) Hohbach of Primghar, IA, Roger (Stacie) Hohbach of Paullina, IA & LeAnn (Chris) Misterek of Apex, NC; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Guttner of Remsen, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 23 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.
