Leonard M Clausen was born September 14, 1925, near Hope, ND. His childhood years were spent around Lake Park. He received his education from the Excelsior school.
On June 3, 1949, Leonard married Janell Beving in Everly. The early years of their marriage were spent on a farm near Lake Park until 1975 when they moved to Spencer. Janell passed away in 1990 and Leonard married Gerry Stamer on March 8, 1991. They lived in Spencer. In 2014, Gerry passed away, and Leonard moved to Omaha.
Leonard spent most of his life farming. He raised corn, soybeans, hay, and oats. He raised beef cattle, hogs, and chickens. He also milked cows.
Leonard was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, where he was an usher.
Leonard was a director on the board at the farmers elevator.
Leonard liked the outdoors except for the very cold Iowa winter and the extreme hot summer days. In his younger years, Leonard would hunt, fish and trap. He also went on family vacations to state and national parks. Most of the time, he would travel west as he disliked the additional traffic going east.
Family was always important to Leonard. In addition to going on family vacations, he would visit relatives whenever he could, some who lived out of state. He supported his children’s activities by attending sporting events including home and away.
Mr. Clausen passed away at a nursing home in Omaha on August 27, 2021, at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, 6 brothers and 5 sisters.
Leonard is survived by one son and his wife, Jeffrey and Carolyn of Dublin, OH; one daughter, Jana Young of Omaha, NE; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
