Leora Joann Riedemann, the daughter of Louis William and Ora Irene (Miller) Schoning, was born February 28, 1936, in Rural Fostoria, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in rural Clay and Dickinson counties where she received her early education until moving to Spencer, where she graduated from Spencer High School in 1954.
Leora married Richard Henry Riedemann on August 29, 1954, in Primghar, IA. They were blessed with four daughters: Karla, Karen, Susan and Barbara. After their marriage, they lived in Spencer from 1954–1964, then moved to a farm by Moneta where they lived for 38 years. She did office work for the Clay County Superintendent, Spencer Foods and Spencer Hospital where she worked for 19 years until her retirement in 1998. They moved back to Spencer in 2002.
Leora was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spencer. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, puzzles, Dominoes, swimming, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Rich and she took many tours throughout the states, plus three overseas to the British Isles, Battle of the Bulge, and Around the World Tour which included Russia, Germany, Switzerland, and China.
She passed away at the Emmetsburg Care Center on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the age of 84. Leora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard in 2018; infant daughter, Barbara; sisters: Charlene Riedemann and Doris Coffman; and three brothers: Raymond, Marion “Mart” Schoning, and Dennis Schoning.
Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters: Karla Freeberg of Mankato, MN, Karen (Delmar) Feddersen of Asburn, VA and Susan Hammen and significant other, Mike Pierotti of Johnston, IA; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; her siblings: Lorraine Barkhoff of Cassville, MO, Lawrence “Bud” (Myrleas) Schoning of Boaz, Alabama, sister-in-law, Ella Schoning of Missouri; other relatives and friends.
