LeRoy Harvey Grothaus, the son of Ralph and Clara (Nelson) Grothaus, was born November 14, 1924, in Marcus, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Sioux City, Iowa, where he attended school and graduated from Central High School in 1941.
Following school, LeRoy entered the military and served with the Army for two years until his honorable discharge in 1945. He then worked at different jobs in Sioux City, Indiana, and southern Illinois, before he moved to Spencer in 1957.
LeRoy opened Spencer Radiator and Lawn Mowing Corners in 1957 and remained the owner and operator until his retirement in 1995.
On January 27, 1985, LeRoy was united in marriage to Nancy Ham in Cherokee, Iowa. They made their home in Spencer until they recently moved to Ida Grove, Iowa.
LeRoy was a past member of the Shriner's. In his free time he enjoyed reading, racing, and his shop-cats, Missy and Rascal, but most of all he loved being around his family and friends.
On April 26, 2009, LeRoy passed away at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one granddaughter, Beth Elizabeth Falline.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Nancy Grothaus of Ida Grove, IA; one stepson, Dan (Nancy) Burkhart, and their three children: Wesley, Brandon, and Kaitlin of Oto, IA; as well as other relatives and many friends.
