Leroy Nellis, the son of Merrill and Helen (Baumeister) Nellis, was born June 15, 1925 in O'Brien County, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in the Hartley area, where he received his education in country schools.
Leroy married Doris Mangham on August 8, 1948 in Greenville, IA. After their marriage, they lived in Royal, IA before moving to May City in 1954. He worked for Osceola County from 1954 until 1963, when they moved to Fostoria, IA. He served a term as mayor of Fostoria. Leroy also worked for Clay County as a motor grader operator from 1963 until his retirement in 1987. His wife, Doris passed away on July 11, 1973.
He married Margaret Nelson on January 26, 1974 in Windom, MN and they continued to live in Park Rapids, MN. She passed away on June 6, 2000.
Leroy married Betty Koster on September 15, 2000 in Milford, IA. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal, IA. Leroy enjoyed polka music and assisting at the Clay County Fair for many years.
He passed away at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the age of 89. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives: Doris & Margaret and four brothers: Lee, Earl, David and Dale Nellis.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Nellis of Sanborn, IA; his stepchildren: Kathy Carlson of Spirit Lake, Bonita McEachern of Lawton, OK, Daniel Mealman of Milford, IA and Joseph Mealman of Tipton, IA; two sisters-in-law: Karen Nellis of Hartley, IA and Linda Nellis of Sutherland, IA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal.
