Lestelle Donovan Mozena was born in a one room house in Bayard, IA on May 10, 1936 to Paul and Rita Mozena, and went to be with Jesus on April 7, 2022 at 1:45pm in his home in Spencer, IA surrounded by his family. Don went to school in Bayard until his parents moved to Ft. Dodge where he attended high school and was a successful wrestler making it to state during his senior year. Don graduated high school in 1954, then went on to Jr. college for one year and business college for one year. During this time, he served in the Air National Guard. On July 9th, 1955, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Leta Rae Farrell.
Don worked at the Des Moines Register in Ft. Dodge until he and Leta moved to Spencer where he continued with the Des Moines Resister as an agency manager totaling 33 years. While working with the Register, Don also began his job as a rural route postal carrier where he worked for 30 years before retiring in March of 2005. Don also owned several rental houses and touched many lives through every job he worked at. Don enjoyed working with kids, and many of these kids several years later have said he instilled the solid work ethic they have today.
A big part of Don’s life was his faith in Jesus. He gave his life to the Lord on April 5, 1980 and continued steadfastly in the faith until he went to be with Jesus. During his time on earth, Don touched many lives by loving people and showing it through his actions. Don cherished his family more than anything in his life. He always put others’ needs ahead of his own and was ready to help his children no matter what. Don found happiness in attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and doted on all their successes. He is known by many to be “the nicest man” and was a friend to all. Don’s most recent hobbies included watching wrestling, caring for his lawn, and reading the paper.
Don is survived by his wife, Leta Mozena; four children: Michael Mozena, David Mozena, TJ Mozena (Teresa Johansen), Kristin Mozena (Troy Wintz); his brother Jerry Mozena; 9 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Rita Mozena; and his sister Bonnie Hagan.
