Lester Allen Hicks

Lester Hicks, the son of Harold and Myrtle (Schlichting) Hicks, was born March 28, 2017 in Cherokee, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Cherokee, where he received his education, graduating from Cherokee Washington High School. After high school, he attended Iowa State University and became a lifelong Cyclone fan. After his schooling, he moved to Houston, TX and worked for the highway department as a foreman. He met Juanita in Texas City, TX. Les married Nita Ober on June 10, 1972. Les brought with him into the marriage, two daughters: Leslie and Becky. They moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1991 to be closer and to take care of his mother in her final years. He worked at Great Lakes Aviation for many years in Spencer and later, Minneapolis until his retirement. He worked at Walmart to keep him busy later in life. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Les served on the board of the Spencer Area Activity Center, on the Spencer Airport Board of Trustees and was past President of the EAA 999 Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 99. Les and Nita loved to travel and made several 'road trips' with good friends to look at anything related to aircrafts. He also enjoyed flying and had a pilot's license most of his adult life. Les passed away at his home in Spencer, Iowa on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Juanita in 2015. He is survived by 2 daughters: Leslie Coughenour and her husband, Keith of Lawton, OK and Becky Robinson and her husband, Bruce of Larchmont, NY; grandchildren: Brittany, Kristen and Justin of Lawton, OK, Jay, Sophie and Amanda of Larchmont, NY; great grandchildren: Halle, Maddie, Natalee and Kameron and a special niece and nephew, Michelle and Richie; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.

INTERMENT
Waterman Cemetery Sutherland, Iowa The burial will be held immediately following the funeral services. A lunch and time of fellowship will be held following the burial at the Wesley Room at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
