Lillian Ellen Lorenz

Lillian Ellen Lorenz, the daughter of Nicholas and Susan (Macnair) Voogd was born March 31, 1920, in Sheridan, WY. Her childhood years were spent in Sheridan where she received her education. On June 10, 1937, Lillian was united in marriage to George Lorenz in Sheridan, WY, where they lived a couple of years before moving to a farm in rural Dickens, IA. After living near Dickens for several years, Lillian and George built their own home. Lillian was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a homemaker who helped with the everyday farm work. They owned Lorenz Antique Shop for over 30 years from their farm in Dickens. In her free time Lillian enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing, and gardening, which she was known for her beautiful gladiolas. Family was very important to Lillian. She enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On August 17, 2007, Lillian passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, one grandson, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, five brothers, and three sisters. Left to cherish her memory are three daughters: Jean (Archie) Berends of Everly, IA, Judy (Darrell) Frerichs of Ruthven, IA, Sally (Pete) Jepsen of Terril, IA; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gertrude Voogd; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Hanson and Wadena Lorenz, both of Spencer, IA; one brother-in-law, Lee (Gertrude) Lorenz of Milford, IA; other relatives and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Spencer Public Library to assist in purchasing books to assist the blind.
SERVICES
Memorial graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, Iowa.
