Lillian Elaine Larsen Fishburn passed away on June 20, 2010 at St. Luke Lutheran Home with her daughter, Valerie by her side.
Lillian, the oldest daughter of T.C. and Dagmar Larsen, was born July 16, 1921 on the family farm east of Spencer, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. She received her early education in the Meadow Township Country School and graduated from Spencer High School in 1937.
She married Andrew (Andy) Fishburn in Mineral Wells, Texas on December 29, 1941 and became a (War Bride). After her marriage, she & her sister, Marylyn, worked at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft in San Diego, CA until the war ended. Lillian worked on the bomb bay doors of the B-24 bomber and was a (Rosie the Riveter). After WW II ended, Lillian & Andy returned to Spencer to make their home.
Lillian was kept busy with their four children but enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking and crafts. As a loving & caring person, strong in her faith, she was always willing to help anyone that asked. She served as Secretary of Bethany Lutheran Church for fifty years and knew everyone by name, not only the adults but also the children and even some of their grandchildren. After her retirement, she worked at Dream World Skating for 18 years, volunteered at Fairview School and babysat for various church families.
Lillian is survived by her children: Kent Fishburn of Chicago, IL, Valerie (Eddie) Ware of Mission, TX and Kim Fishburn of Minneapolis, MN; her sister, Marylyn Henderson of Santa Barbara, CA; brothers: Dale (Mary Lou) Larsen and Eldon (Pat) Larsen of Spencer; 9 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andy, twin daughter, Vickie Steburg and her youngest sister, Janet.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer.
