Linda Kay Morfitt, the daughter of Gene and Darlene (Baumann) Merrill, was born December 18, 1953 in Estherville, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Estherville, Iowa, until her family moved to Spencer, when Linda was a young child. She received her education in the Spencer school district and graduated from Spencer High School in 1972. Following her schooling, she lived in Spencer, where she worked as a USDA meat inspector for a short time in West Liberty, IA. She later began working at Morton Buildings and met her future husband.
Linda married Michael Morfitt on April 14, 1978 at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. After their marriage, she began her day care business and in 1986, she began upholstering furniture and began operating her own business until the time of her death. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, where she was an active LWML member and held many offices in the church. She was also very active in Birthright of Spencer and enjoyed bowling throughout the years.
Linda passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, January 10, 2011 at the age of 57. She was preceded in death by her mother, Darlene and a sister in infancy.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Michael Morfitt of Spencer; three sons: Robert and his fiance, Brenda Harders of Hartley, Terry of Spencer and Anthony Morfitt and his fiance, Kelsey Burwell of Cedar Rapids, IA; her father, Eugene Merrill of Spencer; 6 grandchildren; 2 brothers: Jason Merrill and his wife, Kristin of Omaha, NE and Gary Merrill and his wife, Betsy of Webb, IA; 2 sisters: Donna Ott of Everly, IA and Denise Nohner and her husband, Michael of Litchfield, MN; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, January 14, 2011 at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.
