Lois Ellen Brown

November 16, 1932 — October 3, 2018

Laurens

Lois Ellen (Johnson) Brown, the daughter of Gordon and Elizabeth Johnson was born November 16th, 1932 in Pomeroy, Iowa.   She was the youngest of three children. Lois graduated Pomeroy High School, May 1951.  On February 21st, 1953, Lois was united in marriage to Carl Brown. They moved to the Marathon area where they farmed and raised their five daughters.

Lois loved spending time with or hearing from her children and grandchildren.  As her family grew she always stayed connected with everyone and she was very kind to remember birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions. Throughout her life her strong faith, her love of music and caring for others exemplified a positive role model. She taught piano lessons for many years and was a church organist for over 50 years. When Lois wasn’t playing piano or organ she could be found in the kitchen baking and she especially loved making pies. She was a woman of many talents. She liked to crochet afghans and more recently, baby hats that she donated to the newborn babies at the Spencer Hospital.  She was always up for a game of cards and enjoyed her friendship with her card playing friends. Lois and her husband Carl enjoyed traveling and she had many stories of their experiences. Lois was a farm wife at heart and while on the farm she planted a big garden and spent many hours canning vegetables.  Later in life she maintained an interest in farming as she watched the seasons roll by from her chair.

Heaven called Lois home on Wednesday, October 3rd where she will be reunited with loved ones.  She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Brown; parents, Gordon and Elizabeth Johnson; sister Carol Aljets; grandson Johnathon Fox; granddaughter Paige Marie George.

Left to cherish her memory is her brother Dean and Lois Johnson and their families.  Her daughters: Jane and Wayne Larson of Storm Lake, Judy and Darrell Fox, Spencer, Nancy and John Johnson, Lake Mills, Nita and Evan George, Sioux City, and Carla Dornsbach, Woodland Park, Colorado.
