Lois Elsie Rohrbaugh Maurer

Lois Elsie Rohrbaugh Maurer, the daughter of William and Hulda Ann (Westphal) Proehl, was born September 7, 1928, in Primghar, IA, where she spent her childhood years, and received her education in Archer, IA, graduating in 1946. On June 1, 1947, Lois was married to Robert Rohrbaugh. Following their marriage, they moved to Peterson, IA. She also enjoy living in the Lakes area for couple years before moving to Sutherland, IA After 51 years of marriage, Robert passed away on March 23, 1998. Lois then married Kenneth Maurer on May 26, 2001. Lois was employed by the Spencer Hospital as a Nurse Aide for 8 years, and the Cherokee Mental Health for 8 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ, in Sutherland, IA, where she was a member of the Women's Guild. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary in Sutherland and Peterson. In her spare time, Lois loved to fish and enjoyed looking at pictures. She also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Lois passed away on December 6, 2013, at Sutherland Care Center, at the age of 85. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert, and second husband, Kenneth; two brothers, Clarence and Bill Proehl; 3 sisters, Bernice Speck, June Richter, and Irena Hammerstrom; and 3 grandchildren, Shayla Rohrbaugh, Tracey Reed and Mindy Nichols. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Daniel and wife, Kari of Hope, AR, R. of Northville, NY, Thomas and wife, Emma of Elkland, MO, Steven and wife, Deb of Hartley, IA, and daughter, Bonnie Giese and husband, Brad of Sutherland, IA; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Glenn Proehl of Primghar, IA, and one sister, Ruth Durst of Spirit Lake, IA; one sister-in-law Ruth Proehl of Primghar, IA; many other relatives and friends. In Lieu of flowers a memorial has been set up to the Shayla Bee Foundation.
