Lois Irene Schwien

September 2, 1918 — January 26, 2014

Lois Irene Schwien, the daughter of Joe and Rose (Jensen) Conner, was born September 2, 1918 in Lamberton, MN. Her family moved to Park Rapids, MN where she attended and graduated from school in 1935. She was united in marriage to Melvin Schwien on June 18, 1939 in Brookings, SD. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Garvin, MN area for five years, until moving to the Hartley, IA in 1944, where the couple farmed for many years. They moved into the town of Hartley in 1971. Lois worked as a nursing assistant at the Hartley Community Hospital and was also a member of the ambulance team for a number of years. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Lois enjoyed crocheting, handiwork and most of all, enjoyed caring and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the age of 95. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin in 1981 and two sisters: Belle Pfeifer and Joyce West and a son-in-law, Pat Fanning. Left to cherish her memory are her 5 children: Marlene Nielsen and her husband, Don of Moneta, IA, Judy Fanning of Hartley, IA, Jim Schwien and his wife, Joan of Omaha, NE, Dick Schwien of Johnson Lake, NE and Connie Brewster and her husband, Tim of Sheldon, IA; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Graves of Waupaca, WI; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, Iowa.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the church.

Pleasant View Cemetery Hartley, Iowa A lunch and time of fellowship will be held at the church immediately following the graveside services.
