Lois Thelma O'Clair, the daughter of John Freeman and Emma Alice (Damstrom) Eaton, was born June 6, 1912 in Webb, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the communities of Cornell, Marathon and Webb, where she received her education.
Lois married Claude Tipton O'Clair on July 7, 1929 in Spencer. Following their marriage, Lois worked as a midwife, hung wallpaper and painted. Following the birth of her children she was a homemaker that loved raising her family and having summer camp for her nieces and nephews. She later was the head chef at Vacation Village for 15 years.
Lois was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer and was active in various women's circles and groups. She was a member of the Moose Lodge, Tops Ladies 356, the Eagles, and volunteered at the Spencer Hospital and visited nursing home residents. In her free time Lois enjoyed traveling throughout the United States visiting family members while on vacation. Most of all Lois loved being surrounded by family and friends.
On June 8, 2009, Lois passed away at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her husband Claude Tipton O'Clair; her parents John Freeman Eaton and Emma Eaton; daughter, Joyce Jeannette; brothers: Clint, Dwight, Lester, and Leo Eaton; and three sisters: Ruby Polley, Reva Mae Huffman, and Elsie Miller.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Claude Darrel and Charlott O'Clair of Spokane, WA, Richard A. and Karen O'Clair of Matlock, IA, and Valerie EauClair and her husband John Sadowski of Bellevue, WA; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister Ruth Huffman of Sioux Rapids, IA; as well as other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2009 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer.
