Lora Bertha Norlin, a woman of great faith, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on June 1, 2024, at the age of 98. She spent her last days in Hospice Care at St Luke’s Nursing Home, Spencer, Iowa. Lora was born January 27, 1926 to Carl and Ella Grieme in Schaller, Iowa. Lora was baptized, confirmed and attended parochial school at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa.
On November 27, 1947 Lora married Ernest Raymond Norlin at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. She joined her husband, who owned a farm northwest of Alta, where together they farmed for 28 years and raised 3 children. In later years they resided in Storm Lake, IA, Mesa AZ, Spirit Lake and Spencer, IA.
Lora was the epitome of a good, strong, honest, hard-working and loving person that was cherished by her family and friends. She had a way of making people feel at home the minute they walked into hers. Lora always had something in the refrigerator or freezer that she could offer you no matter what time of day you arrived, along with a cup of coffee. She had a passion for baking and was especially known for her homemade cinnamon rolls. She cross-stitched quilts, patched jeans, mended socks, and enjoyed reading books. Later in her life, she found coloring pictures, bookmarks, and cards fulfilling. She also made friends wherever she went. Her children were fortunate to have been raised by such a strong, independent and loving woman. Her devotion to family and care for her children over-flowed to her grandchildren as well. She instilled in her children a great work ethic and a strong faith. God gave her an abundant life and we were all blessed for sharing it with her.
Lora was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest (Ray) Norlin and her sister, Helen Stieneke.
She is survived by her children, Jim Norlin (Kelly) of Minot, North Dakota, Candace (Kevin) Merkle of Northfield, Minnesota and Mary (Doug) Schuldt of Mankato, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren and 9 greatgrandchildren.
