Loretta Effie Viola Wegener, the daughter of Alvin and Isabel Swan Yerex, was born April 11, 1923 in Lamont, Alberta, Canada. Her childhood years were spent in Lamont, where she graduated High School.
Loretta attended Olds College, in Alberta and worked in a fur store as a seamstress. It was during this time that she met Merlyn Wegener, while he was stationed there with the U.S. Army. They were married October 29, 1945 in Lamont, Canada.
Loretta was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was involved with the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary in the American Legion. She was proud of her involvement with the Veterans Memorial in Spencer and helping to repair damaged flags. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, camping and square dancing. She also enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas.
Loretta passed away Sunday, March 6 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Merlyn, on August 26, 2006.
Left to cherish her memory are 2 sons, Douglas (Katy) Wegener, of Melbourne, Australia and Blair (Davonne) Wegener, of Edgerton, MN; one daughter, LuAnn (Tim) Thomsen, of Spencer, IA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Don (Kay) Yerex and Robert (Audrey) Yerex, both of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services will take place Saturday, March 12, at 10:30 A.M. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer
