Lorna Ruth Goetsch, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Lamkin) Lucas, was born December 23, 1926 in Rock Rapids, IA. Her childhood years were spent in George, Iowa, where she received her education, graduating from George High School. She continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa and later received her BA degree from Northwestern College in Orange City.
Lorna married Harlan Goetsch on June 12, 1948 in George, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Hartley, Iowa, where Lorna was a 1st grade teacher for 20 years at the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn School district. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, where she was active with the Dorcas Society. Lorna was also a Matron of the Eastern Star and Past Mother Advisor of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. In her spare time, she loved to walk, cross stitch, fish, travel and enjoyed reading in her past years when her health permitted. Her family, home and friends were the most important things in her life.
She passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the age of 88. Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers and their wives: Craig and Maxine Lucas and Bob and Betty Lucas, and her brother-in-law, Donald Hansen.
Left to cherish his memory are her husband, Harlan Goetsch of Hartley; two daughters: Susan Rohlf and her husband, Daniel of Coon Rapids, MN and Nancy Wood and her husband, Larry of Maple Plain, MN; four grandchildren: Jed and his wife, Jenni and their children: Finn and Barclay; Ryan Rohlf; and Nicholas and his son, Aiden; Jeffrey Wood and his fiance', Brenna Sheehan; one brother, Jim Lucas and his wife, Lavonne of Cheyenne, WY; one sister, Norma Larson and her husband, Lowell of Hastings, MN; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley.
