Lowell Duane Hagedorn, the son of Louis Simon and Edna (Nissen) Hagedorn, was born on April 9, 1928, in Clay County, IA. Lowell graduated from Spencer High School in 1946. He then went into business with his father buying and selling dairy cattle. Lowell entered into the military on March 7, 1951, serving in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Camp Carson, CO, Red Bank, NJ and Camp Atterbury, IN. He studied teletype machines. Lowell was honorably discharged on March 6, 1953.
Lowell married Gretchen Morgan on March 3, 1951, in Spencer, Iowa. To this union John Jay was born. Lowell was elected to the Clay County Supervisors for 16 years. He was a member of Grace Methodist Church and was involved with the Methodist Men. He also enjoyed bowling, golf and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, but most of all he loved spending time with family and friends.
Lowell peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at his home, at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gretchen of Spencer, IA; his son John and his wife, Kathy of Clanhassen, MN; his granddaughters: Morgan and Shelby; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00p.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion - Glen Pedersen Post #1 of Spencer.
There will be a lunch served following the service at the Grace United Methodist Church.
