Lowell William Lewis

July 6, 1927 — October 18, 2012

Lowell William Lewis, eldest child of William Arthur and Mary McBeath, was born July 6, 1927 on the Lewis farm south of Rossie, Iowa. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1945 where he enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and the trumpet. He farmed the Lewis home farm until he entered the Army in 1950 during the Korean War. He was a member of the 2nd Armored Division, training at Fort Hood, Texas and was based in Mannheim, Germany. He served as a tank commander and attained the rank of M/Sgt. In 1951 Lowell was united in marriage to Nancy Stewart of Webb, Iowa. After his honorable discharge in 1952, he returned to farming and moved north of Rossie where they were blessed with three children: Linda Susan, Stewart Allen and Cynthia Lee. Lowell was a good husband and loving parent. He was a member of the Rossie UCC Church where he served as a deacon and trustee until it's closing, when he joined First Congregational Church in Spencer. He served on the Farmer's Home Administration board, was a 4-H leader and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed sports of all kinds including fishing, bowling, golf and playing cards with friends. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren in school sports and was looking forward to watching his great grandchildren participate. Lowell and Nancy loved to travel and took their family on many vacation trips around the country. They wintered in the warmer climates of Arizona and Texas where they met many good friends. Lowell passed away peacefully at home on the farm near Greenville on Thursday, October 18, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Russell and his granddaughter, Ann Marie. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy of Greenville; his children: Linda Landon and her husband, Roger of Glencoe, MN, Stewart Lewis and his wife, Julie of Sioux Rapids, IA and Cindy Pearson and her husband, Jeff of Everly, IA; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; two sisters: Marjean Wegner and her husband, Don of Spirit Lake, IA and Maxine Thomas and her husband, Darrell of Frisco, CO; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M.,Monday, October 22, 2012 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 Sunday, October 21, with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., Sunday evening at the funeral home in Spencer.

INTERMENT
North Lawn Memorial Park Spencer, Iowa at 1:30 P.M., Monday following the lunch at the church. Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion - Glen Pedersen Post #1 and the Clay County V.F.W. Post #3159.
