Loyd Joseph Batcheler

December 9, 1914 — January 22, 2012

Loyd Joseph Batcheler the son of Martin Gilbert Batcheler and Viola French Batcheler was born December 9, 1914 on the family farm near Dickens, Iowa. Loyd received his early education at the Barlow Country School and graduated from Lake Center High School. He married Marjorie Lundt on September 9, 1940. They had one son, Dale Edward Batcheler born November 12, 1943 in Spencer. Loyd was known as "Batch" by many of his friends throughout his life. He was always proud of the Batcheler name and always had a joke to share about it. Loyd farmed the family farm all of his life living on the farm over eighty years. A highlight was receiving the centennial farm award at the state fair several years ago. He was a life time member of Dickens United Methodist Church serving in nearly every committee position. Loyd and Marjorie also were youth advisors for many years. His faith and insistence to always be in Church was instrumental in guiding his son into the Ministry. Loyd served on the Clay County Zoning board from 1965-1992. He was a loyal member of the golden Kiwanis seldom missing a meeting. He was chairman of the Freeman Township Farm Bureau. He also served on the board of the Dickens Cooperative Elevator. Loyd was a 4-H leader. Loyd and Marjorie enjoyed the Square Dance Campers group. They journeyed to Texas for the winter for over twenty years making many friends during this time. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Velma Anderson. Loyd is survived by his wife of seventy one year's Marjorie of Spencer; his son, Dale and his wife, Patricia of Marshalltown, IA; his grandson, Thomas and his granddaughter, Catharine Harms and her husband, Dan; three great grandchildren: Brayten Batcheler, and twins Jack and Abby Harms.
