Lucile Arebelle Beck the daughter of Gabe and Bessie (Fallon) Bolyard, was born on her grandfather’s farm on October 15, 1920, near Gillet Grove, Iowa. She grew up on that farm and attended school all 12 years in Gillet Grove, graduating from High School in 1938. Lucile married Joseph Beck on February 25, 1939 in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Greenville area raising cattle, hogs, and chickens. Lucile worked hard helping on the farm and raising her family. During her married life she owned and operated Miller’s Bay Drive-In at West Lake Okoboji for 10 years, and she did numerous other part time work through the years as well. She belonged to the Greenville Congregational Church and later the First Congregational Church in Spencer. Lucile and Joe purchased a home, on Center Lake, in the late 1970’s, and enjoyed living there, spending time with family and friends. Lucile and Joe moved back to Spencer in 1994. In her retirement she and Joe liked to travel throughout the United States, making several trips to Europe, and enjoyed spending several winters in Arizona and Texas. Lucile was a resident of Longhouse Nursing Home for the last several years and passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 99. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2001; two sons: Jon and Jay; her great grandson, Tony; two brothers: Glenn and Floyd Bolyard; her sister, Ruth Batschelet and her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Beck.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Joe Beck (Sandy Carlson) of Dakota Dunes, SD; her grandchildren: Lisa Martin (Allan) of Brandon, FL and Kelly Roberts (Shawn) of Roberts, MT; 3 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
