Lucy Jane Kamradt, the daughter of Louis and Ella (Kruse) Warnke, was born April 30, 1921 in Paullina, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Paullina. Where she spent her childhood years and received her education, graduating from Paullina High School.
Lucy married Emil Kamradt on January 3, 1945 in Paullina, Iowa. Throughout their married life, they farmed in the communities Moneta and Sutherland. Lucy enjoyed being on the farm taking care of baby animals and raising chickens and selling eggs. She also worked in nursing homes in Spencer, Paullina and Sutherland as an aid and a cook. They moved to the Sutherland area in 1954 and then moving into the town of Sutherland in 1964. Lucy loved to cook, rhubarb pie was her specialty, sew clothes, play piano, dance every weekend polka dancing with her sisters and her daughter. She taught her daughters to play the accordion. She always liked to have a nice yard and loved her flowers. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Lucy passed away at the Thomas Rest Haven Manor in Coon Rapids, Iowa on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the age of 99. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather; her daughter, Janet Petersen; her sisters: Flora May Clayton and Ann Lorraine Thoms and her ex-husband, Emil.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Margaret Larson of Sutherland, IA; a son-in-law, Larry Petersen of Spearfish, SD; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; 6 great great great grandchildren; 2 nieces and a nephew; other relatives and friends.
