Lynda Sue Cornwell

June 29, 1972 — February 27, 2025

Spencer

Lynda Sue Cornwell, 52, was born on June 29, 1972, to Melvin and Karen (West) Cornwell in Spencer, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm, where she developed a love for music and was actively involved in 4-H. She also kept very busy with basketball, volleyball, pom, speech, NHS, and so many other activities. Lynda graduated from South Clay High School in 1990 and later continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa, earning her degree in 2002. She was married to Kevin Winburn, with whom she shared children, and they later divorced. She held various jobs in the Spencer and Lakes area throughout her career. When she wasn’t at work, she cherished spending time with her family, a good bowl of ice cream, and listening to 80s music – a love she passed on to her daughter and grandson. A talented musician, she played piano for numerous churches throughout the area. In 2009, she married James Hoffard, and they later divorced.

Throughout life, Lynda’s most exceptional and memorable trait was her compassion. Lynda never met someone she couldn’t help. In 2010, she donated one of her kidneys to her father, Melvin. She was well known for lending a helping hand or a kind word to anyone who needed it. Lynda’s heart touched the world in a way that will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Cornwell, and her stepson, Jon Winburn.

Lynda is lovingly remembered by her children, Jordan Cornwell and Jack Winburn, and her grandson, Noah Cornwell. She is also survived by her mother, Karen Cornwell; her brother, Mark (Tonya) Cornwell; nieces, Kayla (Kelbey) Isack and Jenna (Hunter) Cornwell; and stepsons, Mark, Forrest and Andrew Winburn.

Lynda was devoted to her faith. She joined Hope Church with her daughter Jordan, and grandson Noah, in 2020.
