Lynette 'Lynn' C. (Straub) Broyer

September 20, 1936 — May 11, 2012

Lynette C (Straub) Broyer Lynn, 75, a former Overland Park, Kansas resident, passed away quietly May 11, 2012, after a short illness, at the Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado, to join her beloved dog, Scamper, a Bichon Frise who had died several years earlier of cancer. A celebration of her life will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas on Friday May 25, 2012 at 1:00 PM and in Spencer, Iowa at Warner Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM. The ashes will be held by the family. Lynn was born September 20, 1936, in Germantown, Iowa to Melvin and Birdline (Amendt) Straub along with her twin sister Jeanette Coreen, who died in childbirth. Lynn graduated from Spencer High School in 1954. She graduated from St Lukes Nursing College in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1957 and nursing became her greatest passion in life. She was married to Judd Broyer in 1959 and divorced several years later, but the marriage resulted in her greatest joy in life, her two children, Renee Schmidt of Gardner, Kansas and Doug Broyer of Castle Rock, Colorado. Most recently Lynn lived in Colorado, but before moving there in 2011, she lived in Overland Park, Kansas for 28 years. She made many friends and worked at several hospitals and facilities there, including Overland Park Regional Hospital, Atriums, Kingswood and Park Meadows. Before moving to the Kansas City area, she lived in Ft Morgan, Colorado and Spencer, Iowa. She worked at the Spencer Municipal Hospital for many years and one of her proudest achievements was starting up the ICU unit there. She continued to work as an R.N. until 2011, but also volunteered at the Overland Park Arboretum, due to her passion for plants and flowers. Lynn loved each holiday to be spent with family, but Christmas was her favorite and she planned for it months in advance every year. Her love for life, gardening and dogs was surpassed only by her love of family and her patients. She truly touched so many lives and will be missed greatly by all. She was a member of the Atonement Lutheran Church in Overland Park, Kansas and First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa. She is survived by her daughter Renee and her husband Steve Schmidt of Kansas and Doug and his wife Valya (Bronson) of Colorado, along with their 2 children Tori and Kyle, her sister Diane and husband Jan Stein of Spencer, Iowa and brother Duane and his wife Sylvia Straub of Silver Spring, Maryland. She is preceded in death by her father, mother and twin sister. Donations can be sent in her memory c/o Doug Broyer, 1055 Neptunite Place, Castle Rock, CO, 80108, mentioning which charity the donation is to go toward; Overland Park Arboretum or HSPCA (formerly Animal Haven of Merriam KS). We love you mom and will miss your great sense of humor, compassion toward people and animals and our daily phone conversations.
