Mabel Mae Mills, the daughter of Lewis and Ella Maude (DuBois) Battin, was born on July 4, 1913 in North Redwood Falls, MN. She was raised in the Webb and Spencer area attending grade school in Spencer.
Mabel married Bert Mills on August 13, 1930 in Spencer, IA. Following their marriage, they lived in the Webb community where they farmed until 1965, when they moved to Spencer. Mabel started working for the Spencer Schools as a cook and baker until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and attended the LeMars Bible Church. She was also active in the Ladies Aid at the Methodist church in Webb. Mabel enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and spending time with her family.
On June 10, 2008 Mabel passed away at Plymouth Manor in LeMars, IA at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Duane; her daughter, JoAnn; five brothers; two sisters; and one grandson, Bradley Lyon.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Jean Ferguson and husband, Claire of Sioux Rapids, IA, Joy Larson and husband, Gary of Remsen, IA, Larry Mills and wife, Mary of Sioux Rapids, IA, Marlene Rounds of St. Augustine, FL, Linda Tenpas and her husband, Eugene of Austin, TX; a daughter-in-law, Gail Mills of Thaxton, VA; a son-in-law, James Johnson of Sioux City, IA; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Battin of Chewelah, WA; two sisters: Maxine Hartill and Mackie White of Spokane, WA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, June 13, 2008, at Warner Chapel in Spencer, Iowa.
