Mable Isabelle Larson, the daughter of Charlie and Susie Ritter Ganger, was born March 6, 1919 in Lake View, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Peterson, Iowa, where she received her education at Peterson High School. Following high school, she received her nurses training in Kansas City, Missouri in 1940. She worked as a nurse in Kansas City, until 1945, when she entered the military and served as a nurse with the U.S. Army during WWII until her honorable discharge in 1946.
Mable married Bernard Larson on December 9, 1946 in Kansas City, MO. They moved to Peterson, Iowa following their marriage, where for several years, they operated a dry cleaning, mercantile and dress shop business. In 1956, they moved to Spencer, Iowa where she continued to work as a nurse at the Spencer Hospital until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Mable was also a member of the Women's Society and the Business and Professional Women's Club. She loved reading, traveling and camping in her spare time and was active in volunteer work in Spencer.
Mrs. Larson passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard; two brothers: Fred and Merlyn Ganger, an infant brother and a nephew, Robert Hodgen.
She is survived by a brother, Chuck Ganger and his wife, Alice "Toni" of Cherokee, IA; nieces: Sue Hodgen of Remsen, IA, Ann Ganger of Dixon, IL, Mary Ganger of Tempe, AZ, Nancy Farrington of Cherokee and Becky Larson of California; a nephew, Charles "Dude" Ganger and his wife, Lori of Cherokee, IA; a sister-in-law, Virginia Ganger of Peterson, IA; Amy Brown of Phoenix, AZ; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held 1:30 P.M., Monday, April 9, 2007 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
Military Services will be conducted by Glen Pedersen American Legion Post #1 of Spencer following the graveside services.
