Mae Margaret Miller

Mae Margaret Knowles Miller was born July 23, 1918 in Wing, ND to Karl Ross Knowles and Clara (Lutgens) Knowles. Her childhood years were spent in Bismarck, ND where she received her early education. Her family moved to Spencer in 1928 where she continued her schooling, graduating from Spencer High School in 1936. She attended business college in Minneapolis, MN. She worked for an insurance company and as apartment hotel as a bookkeeper and switchboard operator. It was in Minneapolis where she met and married Robert W Miller on April 4, 1946. They moved to Spencer in 1946 and remained residents there for many years. After Roberts death she moved to Hartley, IA She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, BP Chapter of T.T.T. and the Clay County Federated Garden Club. She was a charter member and treasurer on the Sunshine Workers Inc. Board and worked as a bookkeeper for Sun Shine Workers for 10 years. She was also on the Care Review Committee for St. Lukes Lutheran Home. She was payee for a handicap adult for 15 years. Mae loved playing cards and belonged to several bridge clubs over the years. She also quietly cared for her disabled son, Thomas for many years. Mae passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center Assisted Living Facility in Hartley, Iowa on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert on October 4, 1989, 1 son, Thomas, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Brad (Nancy) Miller of Hartley, 2 grandchildren: Cassi & Dylan; other relatives and friends.
