Margaret Fern 'Peg' Nelson, the daughter of Foster and Sarah Mae (DeGroff) Reed, was born May 5, 1918 in Ruthven, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Ruthven, where she received her education. She later attended 3 years at Drake University studying to be a clinical nutritionist.
Peg married Chester 'Chet' Nelson on July 28, 1937. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Ruthven, Iowa, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Aplington, Iowa, and Washington, Illinois, where Chet was a long distance truck driver and Peg cared for her family. Peg also served as editor of the Ruthven Newsletter and as Postmistress for the US Postal Service in Aplington, Iowa. Following his retirement, Margaret and Chester moved to Zapata, Texas in 1979, where they spent their winters while traveling during the summer.
Following Chet's death on March 17, 1997, she moved back to Iowa.
Margaret passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chet; an infant son, David Nelson; a son, Donald Nelson and a granddaughter, Denise Nelson.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Rosemary Dawes of Bedford, TX and Marjorie Walker of Athens, GA; 6 grandchildren: Cindy Suiter, Judith Nietert, Dale Nelson, Sara Price, Karen Hamdad and Jennifer Reusch; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Carol Nelson; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 5, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven, IA
