Margaret Lavonne Hanson

August 10, 1923 — April 28, 2015

Margaret LaVonne Hanson, the daughter of George and Irma (Blackmer) Selzer, was born August 10, 1923 in Peterson, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in rural Clay County, where she received her education in country schools, later graduating from Spencer High. Margaret met Orton Hanson while she was living in California and they married on July 14, 1946 in Inglewood, CA. Following their marriage, they moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1947. She raised her family and took care of her home throughout the years. Margaret was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She passed away in Spencer, Iowa on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the age of 91. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orton in 2010; 2 brothers: George and Carl Selzer and her beloved dog, Ozzie. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters and their husbands: Lynn and Richard Harrison of Iowa City, IA and Laurel and Greg Anliker of Des Moines, IA; two sons and their wives: Michael and Kelly Hanson and Kent and Julie Hanson all of Spencer, IA; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two sisters: Barbara Gustavus of Plano, TX and Donna (Robert) Pena of San Fernando, CA; four brothers: Ralph Selzer of Dickens, IA, Kenneth Selzer of Windsor, CO, Charles Selzer and William (Evelyn) Selzer all of Everly, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 1, at Oakland Cemetery in Peterson. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 30, at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer, starting at 5:00 P.M., with family present from 5-7:00 P.M.
