Margaret Maurer

March 7, 1915 — March 10, 2009

Margaret I. Maurer, the daughter of William and Clara (Seibel) Maurer, was born on March 7, 1915 in Spencer, Iowa. She was raised and received her early education and graduated from Spencer High School in 1928. After high school, she worked at the Spencer Theater as a cashier. On March 12, 1943 she joined the U.S. Navy as a "Wave" at the beginning of WWII. She took her training in finance at Grosse Ile, Michigan. Maggie was stationed at several naval bases for a short time and was then sent to the naval base in Hawaii for the duration of the war. She was honorably discharged on February 7, 1946. When Maggie returned to the States, she lived and was employed in Chicago. She didn't like the cold winters, and decided to move to Los Angeles, CA, where she worked at Western Carloading Terminal as an assistant auditor. She held this position for 30 years. Upon retirement, Maggie moved to Oceanside, CA, buying a condo in a large complex. She lived there until she became ill in June of 1999. Maggie liked doing crossword puzzles, keeping house and cooking. Since Maggie never married, her sister and nephews decided to bring her back to Iowa where they could visit her. Margaret passed away on March 10, 2009, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Jeannette Baysinger of Peterson, Iowa; her nephews: Larry Arnold and his wife, Marilyn of Medford, NJ, Mike Arnold and his wife, Connie of Elajay, GA and David Arnold of Peterson, IA; other relatives and friends.
