Margaret May Anderson, the daughter of Marshall and Frances (Olmsted) Elkin, was born February 14, 1934 in Estherville, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer, where she received her education, graduating from Spencer High School in 1953. After her schooling she worked as a bookkeeper at Spurgeon’s in Spencer.
Margaret married Deane Anderson on June 14, 1959 in Spencer. After their marriage, they farmed near Spencer for many years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Spencer, where she was CWF president, secretary, group leader and deacon. She also did volunteer work, was on the care review committee for Longhouse Residence, and was a TOPS member. Margaret was always known for being a good cook, one of her specialties was her homemade rolls. People always loved to show up to their home for meals and card games.
She passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, April 26, 2021 at the age of 87. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Laura Marie Elkin.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Deane of Spencer, IA; children: Randall (Kathy) Anderson of Fostoria, IA, Bradley (Julie) Anderson of Schaller, IA, Deanna (Dick) McCord of Spencer, IA, Rodney (Dawn) Anderson of Dickens, IA; 8 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 2 sisters: Vivian (Wendell) Anderson of Spencer, IA, Doris Salton of Dickens, IA; a brother, Marshall (Lillian) Elkin of Carlock, IL; other relatives and many friends.
