Margaret Lucille Overeen, 'Maggie', left her family far too soon on January 3, 2011 at the age of 86. She was born in Everly, Iowa on November 21, 1924, to Wofford and Bernice Hall. She attended school in Everly and graduated from High School in 1942. She attended Buena Vista College and received her teaching certificate. She attended the Methodist Church in Dickens, IA and Spencer, IA. Maggie resided in Spencer from 1970 until her passing.
Maggie met William Overeen while teaching in a one room school house near Dickens. They married on May 28, 1944 and lived on a farm near Dickens. She then became part-time farmer's wife and part-time teacher. She also taught piano lessons. After a time, Maggie stopped teaching and began working at Longhouse Nursing Home and after that at the Spencer Hospital as a nurse's aide. She especially loved rocking the babies to sleep on the OB ward, and there are many of 'her' children running around. She retired from the hospital in 1988.
During their marriage Maggie and Bill welcomed four daughters into their lives. Taking care of her children did not keep her and Bill from other activities that they loved such as bowling, dancing, camping (especially in the Black Hills), playing cards, and playing the organ and conducting the choir for the Dickens Methodist Church. She also played organ for Golden K, and volunteered frequently at the Spencer Senior Center. She loved her dog, Angel, and her cat, Miss Kitty. Her most favorite thing however, was spending time with her grandchildren.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, one sister, Evelyn, a grandchild, Eric Prentice, four brothers-in-law, two nephews and a niece.
Her children are left to cherish her memory: Peggy Seck (Lee) of St. Louis Park, MN, Becky Prentice (Richard) of Spencer, IA, Barb McKinley (Tim) of Ames, IA and Jane Jans (Jeff) of Fostoria, IA, and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, her nephew, Ed Nelson (Janice) of Ida Grove, IA and four sisters-in-law, other relatives and her many dear friends.
