Margene Schoning, the daughter of Pearl Shatto Beving and Joe Beving, was born July 2, 1923 in Clay County, IA. Margene graduated from Lake Center High School in 1940. On September 19, 1942, Margene was united in marriage to Dale Schoning in Dakota City, NE. Her married life was spent farming with her husband, Dale on a farm east of Fostoria, IA. After Dale passed away in 1986, Margene was employed at the Spencer Hospital for eight years until she retired in 1996. She remained on the farm until February 1, 2000, when she moved to the Sunrise Apartments in Spencer. On July 1, 2007, Margene moved to the Ruthven Senior Villa Apartments in Ruthven, IA. Margene was a long time member of the Langdon United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a good homemaker, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Margene loved the farm, working in the fields and being outside. Margene was an avid Minnesota Viking, Minnesota Twins and Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed short trips with Jay and his golden retriever. Margene passed away on July 8, 2009, at the Ruthven Senior Villa Apartments, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; parents, Joe and Pearl Beving; sister, Bonnie Koenig; brothers-in-law: Robert Koenig, Virgil Schoning, Duane Schoning and John Sorensen; sister-in-law, Betty Schoning; mother-in-law, Gladys Langfeldt and father-in-law, Ernest Schoning. To cherish her memory are her children: Jay of Ruthven, IA, Joel of Bemidji, MN, Dean and wife, Sue of Milford, IA and Mike and wife, Cindy of Terril, IA; daughter-in-law, Rose Schoning of Spencer, IA; 6 grandsons: Mike and Shelly, Matt and Brenda, Jason and Crystal, Kevin, Kenneth and Darren; two granddaughters: Heidi and Bryan and Amanda and Pete; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Darrell Beving and his wife, Sandy of Dickens, IA; one brother-in-law, Jim Schoning and his wife, Joan of Ruthven, IA; five sisters-in-law, Helen Sorensen of Appleton, MN, Mary Schoning of Spirit Lake, IA, Karon Schoning of Los Angeles, CA, Linda Miller and Bob from Kalispell, MT; several nephews and nieces and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, at the Grace United Methodist Church, Spencer, Iowa.
