Margie Ada King

Margie Ada Rouse was born August 22, 1916, on the family farm north of Ayrshire.  She was the 5^th child of a family of 12. Her parents were Ada Eaton Rouse and John Fremont Rouse.  When in 8^th grade she won the Palo Alto County spelling contest.  She graduated from Ayrshire High School in 1934.  She then attended and graduated from Hamilton Business College in Mason City, with a General Business and Secretarial degree.  She was employed in Mason City as a secretary and bookkeeper at Beck Bros. Real Estate and Insurance until her marriage on March 26, 1939, to Franz Aldinger of Alexander, Iowa.  In 1940 they moved to Bode, Iowa, where they bought the theater.  They were the parents of two children: William was born on April 17, 1940, and Marcia was born July 3, 1943.  Franz passed away July 21, 1947, from Hodgkin’s Disease (cancer of the lymph glands) incurred as a result of his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  Margie continued to operate the theater until 1950, when she sold it and moved her family to Mason City, where she was employed by the U.S. Department of Labor and for a short while with the Veterans Administration.  She moved to Emmetsburg in 1953, where she was a secretary and cashier at Palo Alto Bank until her marriage on October 15, 1955, to Floyd King of Dickens.  They were the parents of two children: David was born September 6, 1956, and Dennis was born February 13, 1958.  She and Floyd made their home on his farm, south of Dickens.  She was organist for 40 years at the United Methodist Church in Gillett Grove, and served also as a District Officer in the United Methodist Women.  She read the Bible in its entirety every year, but lest she take undue pride in that fact, she kept a reminder slip in the Bible that read, “It is not particularly important whether we get through the Bible or not; but it is very important that the Bible gets through to us.”  She served on the South Clay School Board for 6 years.  In 2000 they retired and moved into Spencer.  They were members of the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer, and she was a member of Women of Hope.  Floyd passed away on August 16, 2013.  Margie celebrated her 102^nd birthday on August 22, 2018, at the Ruthven Community Care Center, where she had resided since 2007.  She passed away peacefully on September 18, 2018.

     Margie was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and one granddaughter, Ashley King.  She is survived by 4 sisters: Bertha Wagner, Gertrude Colegrove, Jean Rowe, and Goldie Buckner.  She is also survived by 4 children: Bill (Ginger) Aldinger (Livingston, TX), Marcia (Bill) Jackson (Santee, SC), David King (Spencer) and Dennis (Kerry) King (Dickens); 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
