Maria “Lu” Luise Horning, the daughter of Franz and Maria (Pflaum) Heinrichmeyer was born in Eltmann, Germany on November 22, 1952.

Lu married a serviceman, Doug VanEngen and came to the United States in 1970. She had 2 children with him. After her divorce she went to work at Longhouse Nursing Home. She worked there for 32 years before health problems forced her to retire. Lu married Jamie Horning on July 26, 1986 in Gray, IA. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.

Lu is survived by spouse, Jamie Lynn Horning of Spencer, IA; 2 children, John VanEngen of Salt Lake City, UT and Dawn Culver of Sanborn, IA; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.

SERVICES

Private family funeral services will take place 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 11 at the Warner Funeral Chapel in Spencer.
