Marcia Jean Mouw, the daughter of Abe and Jeanette Van Peursem, was born June 5th,
1928 in Orange City, Iowa. She received her education there, graduating from Northwestern
Academy in 1945. On April 16th, 1948, she married Lowell Mouw at Orange City. She worked in
the Sioux County Treasurer’s Office until they moved to Spencer in 1956. Over the years, she
worked at Bjornstad Drug Store and the Hen House Gift Shop. She was an active member of
the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. She also served as a volunteer at the local elementary
school for several years. Lowell preceded her in death on May 22, 2014. After his death she
moved to Greene, Iowa. She attended the First Presbyterian Church there.
She is survived by her three sons: Donn (Deborah) of Tucson, Arizona, Douglas
(Steven) of Portland, Oregon, and Jeffrey (Sandra) of Greene, Iowa. Grandchildren Kelly (Rory)
Federson, Sara (Gregory) O’Brien, David (Cassie) Mouw, Leah (Ryon) Rasmussen, and Daniel
(Marissa) Mouw. Great grandchildren Riley, Colter, and Noah Federson and Maxwell, Jillian, and
Natalie O’Brien.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, sister Cynthia
(Edward) Peuse, brother John (Nellie) Van Peursem, and brother Willard (June) Van Peursem,
other relatives and friends.
