Mariel Royer Cole

August 9, 1928 — August 24, 2009

Mariel Royer Cole, the daughter of Dr. Herman C. and Minnie Royer Struck, was born August 9, 1928 in Kanawha, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Kahawha, where she received her education, graduating from Kanawha High School. She later attended Upper Iowa College for two years. Mariel married James O. Berhow and following their divorce, she married Lewis Cole on August 27, 1966 in Lancaster, Wisconsin. Throughout her life, Mariel worked in various offices doing secretariel work. She was a Lutheran by faith. In her spare time, she enjoyed her pets. Mrs. Cole passed away at her home in Spencer on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis on November 10, 1999 and an infant sister. She is survived by a son, James Berhow of Spencer; a stepson, Stephen and his wife, Cynthia Cole of Grand Junction, Colorado; 2 stepdaughters: Cynthia and her husband, Douglas Zmolek of Johnston, IA and Verna Leah and her husband, David Shoemaker of Grand Junction, CO; two sisters: Margaret Larson of Kanawha, IA and Virginia Hansen of Pearle, Arizona; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer.
