Marilyn May Hoffrichter, the daughter of Marion and Evelyn (Frutchey) Daugherty, was born on March 30, 1940, at her parent’s home in Gillett Grove, IA. She was raised in Clay and Dickinson Counties where she also attended country schools. She finished her schooling by attending Spencer High School graduating in 1958. Upon graduation, she worked at a grocery store in the produce department and as a checker.
On October 22, 1960, Marilyn married Francis Hoffrichter in Spencer, IA. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Spencer area. She spent the early years of the marriage being a wife and homemaker, raising her family. Later she held various jobs working at the Tangney Hotel, Brown Medical in Spirit Lake and Longhouse Residence. In her younger years she loved to ride her horse and racing her brother, Roger. She also enjoyed tending to her garden and sharing her produce with other people. She was a great cook but didn’t like doing it, she listened to country music and the old church hymns. She enjoyed reading, and she had a sweet tooth for chocolate.
Marilyn passed away on August 5, 2024 at the Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, IA, at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ronnie.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Shawn Kuehl and her husband, Kayle of Spirit Lake, IA, Stacey Hoffrichter of Spencer, IA and Eric Hoffrichter and his wife, Rochelle of Buda, TX; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her brother, Roger Daugherty and his wife Yvonne of Greenville, IA; her sister, Mary Jane Daugherty of Fresno, CA; other relatives and many friends.
