Marilyn Jean Pettit, the daughter of Lester and Lucile (Groves) Welch was born on June 18, 1928, in Arnolds Park, Iowa. On December 1, 1952, Marilyn married Clifford Pettit in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They lived in Everly until 1966 when they moved to Hartley, Iowa. Years later they moved to Tucson, Arizona, for one year. Deciding they wanted to be closer to family, they settled in Spencer, Iowa.
Marilyn was mostly a stay at home mom except for a few years when she worked at John’s Bakery and Lacey’s Café in Hartley, Iowa. She loved going to dances and camping with friends at the local town parks.
Marilyn passed away on February 15, 2019, at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Welch and mother, Lucile Higley; father-in-law, Roy Higley; and daughter-in-law, Vicky Pettit.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Judy Arnold of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Diane Rausch and husband, Bill of Hartley, Iowa; one son, Stanley Pettit of Stanley, WI; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Longhouse-Northshire for the excellent care they took of Marilyn.
